My philosophy places a high priority on basic skills. I believe in developing a mastery of fundamentals to build solid technique. My method is mostly auditory and visual, since kinesthetic learning by trial and error typically involves band-aid solutions to problems, involves far more squandered energy and wear and tear on the body, and does not support the consistency of a more methodical approach. I believe firmly in rudimentary exercises and drills for skaters of all levels to learn and replenish the continually attenuating skills. Optimum skill development builds not only long-term mastery, but also confidence that comes from reducing errors caused by attempting difficult moves prematurely.
